Photos on the Ranch
So I’m back. Got back yesterday from a Mentor Series trek to the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan. “Ranch? In Michigan? Really?” Yes. It was great and I got a lot of awesome photos. It was a tiring weekend though.
The mentors for this trek was Dave Black and Lori Stoll. Awesome photographers and great mentors. I did learn a lot from them.
Friday was packed with environmental portraits of different folks in full cowboy/cowgirl attire. Then that evening was the weekly rodeo. I got a great shot at the rodeo of one of the riders getting bucked off and flying towards the ground. Hit spur was caught on a rope. Scary, exciting stuff.
Saturday was the longest day! Woke up early and went on a cattle run — didn’t get many photos tho.. later that evening they did a horse run and wrangled their 60-70 horses. We were on the positioned on the field as the horse ran by. Later we were brought to a lake where they rode horses at sunset through the lake. great shots there. then right after that we headed off to the main barn and worked on light painting photos.
Light painting is taking a long exposure (30 seconds) in pitch dark, then “painting” the subject with lights from a flashlight. got some cool shots there. Ended the night around 1 am.
Flight was cancelled on Sunday.. so got to stay an extra day. One of the mentors stayed until Monday.. and the others flight was also cancelled. So a few of us got to hang out and take more photos. We stayed up until 2am taking more light painting photos.

Hmm. Kinda sad. Was there for about four years. Time for a change and to fully move to Flickr.

Night Photography
Tonight I went on my first night photography trek. i went with a friend who took a course through a group called “The Nocturnes.” This short little trek really piqued myinterest. While my photos were nothing compared to what people in the group showed us durning “show-and-tell” time, it’s getting me excited. Visit the site above for some really stunning shots. I got a few good shots. This is one of them. It’s Dry Dock 1 on Mare Island in Vallejo, Ca. It’s an old Navy base.
i wasn’t fully prepared. I need to get a shutter release cable. can’t wait until the next full moon.

Hello? Goodbye?
Last week I received an email from textamerica.com saying my annual membership expired on 2/7 - two weeks before. I can continue at 8.99 a month or cancel. I don’t think I will continue. it’s kind of sad, I supported it since 2003 and have 2300 plus posts. I paid the annual fees, but it’s changed alot the last year +. So I think I will stick with Flickr and my personal blog. I backed up all my photos on Flickr — created a set for all my TA pics.
Too bad Flickr doesn’t do video. I will miss posting “name that tune” entries.
Tish.

1975 malibu chevelle shoot.
a friend of my brother’s rebuilt a 1975 malibu chevelle. he wrote up an article submission for a magazine and needed some photos taken of his car. all in all, i think they turned out really good. if it’s published, i’ll get another publishing credit.
i shot the car on Treasure Island in San Francisco. parked it in this one spot that looks like it exists soley for capturing unobstructed photos of the bay bridge and sf city skyline. we got there at 6:30 am, right before sunrise, to start shooting. i want to go back and get more pictures of the city. it was very pretty.
check out some of my shots on my site. let me know what you think.

Another published photo…

I have another published photo under my belt. The latest PC Magazine has a portait that I took of my friend and coworker, Annaliza Savage. Some might remember her as the series producer of GameSpotTV and Extended Play.

only a few photos came out from yesterday’s excursion to the tracks — and i’m
not happy with them. unfortunately as soon as i got there i dropped my $600
70-300 mm zoom lens.ugh! and it will no longer focus. my 1-year warranty
runs out on monday. hopefully they’ll take it. this one was taken with my
100mm macro lens. i also brought my new fisheye film camera.. it’ll take a
bit to get developed. yesterday was a craptastic day for me photography-wise. :|
even broke the strap on my fisheye cam.
i do want to go back once i get my lens back.

damnit. it’s hot.
so… at christmas… my mom stuffed my stocking with various perfume samples. candy too… but i was able to stay away from it. there was one perfume i liked in particular… and dang it. it’s paris hilton’s perfume. good grief.
hot topic: CES and MacWorld. past couple of days i’ve gotten tons of work done… there was only 3 people on my floor today… everyone else was at CES — the consumer electronics show. or macworld… where they announce the iPhone. looks interesting. i was browsing around for video ipods… but now i think i’ll have to wait and see. sadly, i didn’t get to go to either of these. :(
hot camera: i bought a lomographic film camera — the fisheye 2. it’s looks pretty interesting. i’ve been snapping photos here and there and i’ll be uploading them at some point. it’s a film camera so i have to actually get it developed! it’s been so long! ha! you can check out the lomography society for tons of images created by these cheap cameras. hoping to get some good stuff out of mine.
